Food Fundamentals

Our Food Fundamentals programme is an opportunity for people of all ages and abilities to learn essential cookery skills in a safe, friendly, and encouraging environment. Participants will learn how to make delicious, healthy, cost-effective meals and gain confidence in the kitchen. This course will also serve as a great foundation for anyone considering a career in catering or cookery.

Programme structure:

Participants will spend an hour per week across six weeks in our community kitchen learning the follow skills:

  • Kitchen hygiene, familiarisation with utensils, ovens, hobs

  • The importance of nutrition and balanced healthy eating principles

  • Learning about flavours and ingredients

  • Confidence to create meals from surplus food and leftovers

  • One pot cookery such as delicious stews and curries

  • Healthy breakfasts and brunches
